It’s win or bust! Hugo Lloris says Tottenham must beat Southampton
Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris says Spurs must beat Southampton to keep their hopes of a top-four finish alive
Hugo Lloris says Tottenham Hotspur must beat Southampton on Saturday to keep their hopes of a top-four finish alive.
Andre Villas-Boas’s men lost further ground on third-placed Chelsea after Spurs were held to a 1-1 draw with Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium last weekend.
Tottenham are three points behind the Blues, while Arsenal are two points clear of their north London rivals having played on game more than Villas-Boas’s side.
And Lloris warned his team-mates that Spurs can’t afford any slip-ups at St Mary’s.
“We want to be in the next Champions League but we know that if we don’t get three points against Southampton our chance will be finished,” Lloris told Sky Sports News.
Lloris insisted he has enjoyed his first season in the Premier League after completing a reported £12m move to Spurs from Lyon in August.
“It was a big step in my career and it was very important to have a good adaptation in my life but also in football.
“I have enjoyed this season. It is true that it was not easy at the beginning, but after it was better.”
The France international heaped praise on Tottenham winger Gareth Bale after the 24-year-old won Football Writers’ Association footballer of the year award on Thursday.
“He has had a great season for Tottenham and helped the team to be in this situation,” said Lloris.
“I am sure he will help us realise this objective and we need him to win the next four games to finish in the top four.”
