Jan Vertonghen: Win over Arsenal my favourite Tottenham game

Jan Vertonghen has revealed that his favourite moment of the 2012-13 season was Tottenham’s 2-1 derby victory over Arsenal back in March.
Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon both scored just before half-time to put Andre Villas-Boas’ side 2-0 up, with Per Mertesacker halving the deficit after the break.
The victory on 3 March moved Spurs seven points ahead of their local rivals – but Arsenal won eight of their last 10 league games to pip Tottenham to a fourth-place finish and Champions League qualification.
But Vertonghen, who moved to White Hart Lane from Ajax last summer, holds fond memories of the win over Arsene Wenger’s men, as well as the 3-2 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford back in September.
“The win against Arsenal at home was great,” Vertonghen told Spurs’ website. “That was when we really felt like a team together with the supporters.
“It was a great game for us. The win at Old Trafford as well. The first half that day was probably our best half of the season, we were unbelievable. To win that was very special.
“It was a great feeling to beat Arsenal. It was my first north London derby at White Hart Lane and everyone was so happy afterwards.”
