Liverpool transfers: ‘Time could be right for Christian Eriksen to move’
Liverpool transfers: Ajax boss Frank de Boer believes the time could be right for Christian Eriksen to leave the club
Frank de Boer believes the time could be right for Liverpool target Christian Eriksen to take the “next step” in his career this summer.
The Denmark international, also thought to be on Manchester United’s radar, is reported to be one of Brendan Rodgers’ top summer targets as the Liverpool boss looks to bolster his squad after failing to secure a top-four finish this term.
Eriksen’s Ajax contract is set to expire in 2014 and the 21-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from the Netherlands in recent months.
And Ajax boss De Boer admits that it could be a good time for the highly-rated playmaker, who has scored 13 goals and made 18 assists this term, to seek pastures new.
“With his technique and his style of play he could be even more dangerous in front of goal,” De Boer is quoted as saying on Tuttomercatoweb.com.
“I think he would fit in well with any kind of football and perhaps now is the right time for him to take the next step [in his career].”
De Boer’s comments come after Ajax technical director Marc Overmars revealed Eriksen has rejected the chance to sign a new deal at the Amsterdam outfit.
“Christian has informed us that he won’t be signing a new deal with us at this time,” Overmars said. “I think that he and his agent will want to see what options are available in the summer.”
