Liverpool transfers: Daniel Agger plans to see out Reds contract
Liverpool transfers: Denmark international Daniel Agger insists he plans to see out his Reds contract which expires in 2016
Daniel Agger insists he plans to see out the remaining three years of his Liverpool contract despite reported interest from Barcelona.
The 28-year-old has been ever-present at the heart of Brendan Rodgers’s defence this season, managing to rack up 35 top-flight appearances.
The Denmark international, who impressed at Euro 2012, has been touted as a possible target for Barcelona as the Catalan side look to strengthen their defence.
But Agger played down the rumours and underlined his intention to stay at the Reds until his deal expires in 2016.
“I still have three years left and I intend to fulfil them,” he said. “There are always rumours, but who is creating them? I don’t know.
“It is not a bad thing to be linked with top clubs but you have to take 70 per cent of the speculation off and then you have the reality.”
Agger also hailed his centre-half partner Jamie Carragher, with the veteran set to call time on a decorated 16-year Liverpool career at the end of the season.
“Jamie speaks for himself. To be at that level for that long, it’s not impossible but really close,” he added.
“You learn from every single player you play with in training. If you want to be the best you have to learn from the best.”
Agger has scored 12 goals in 209 appearances for Liverpool after completing a £6m move to Anfield from Brondby in 2006.
