Liverpool transfers: Kyriakos Papadopoulos ‘happy at Schalke’
Liverpool transfers: Schalke's Kyriakos Papadopoulos is 'happy at the club', according to the defender's agent
Kyriakos Papadopoulos is happy at Schalke despite reported interest from Liverpool and Manchester City, according to the defender’s agent.
The 21-year-old, who already has 16 caps for Greece, made nine Bundesliga appearances for Schalke before suffering a knee injury which cut the defender’s season short in November.
Papadopoulous joined the Bundesliga side from Olympiakos in 2010 and the centre-half’s agent Paul Koutsoliakos is adamant the youngster is not looking to leave Schalke this summer.
“I can tell you we have no interest in a transfer away from Schalke at this point in time,” Koutsoliakos told Bild.
He added: “Kyriakos is happy being at this club.
“Kyriakos is fully focused on being fit when Schalke start pre-season training in the next few months. He looks likely to be ready for it.”
Last week, former Liverpool midfielder Jan Molby backed the Greece international to be a success at Anfield if the Reds manage to secure a deal for the highly-rated defender.
“I’m not surprised that Liverpool are hoping to secure the services of Schalke centre-back Kyriakos Papadopoulos this summer,” Molby told the Liverpool Echo.
“The big Greek defender is as strong as a bull, dominant in the air and very good in one-on-one situations. When I’ve seen him in Champions League matches, I’ve been impressed.
“He hasn’t played since before Christmas due to a knee problem but I’m sure Liverpool will have received reassurances that he has made a complete recovery.
“He certainly fits the profile in terms of the type Liverpool seem to want to build a team around – he’s a talented young player with real potential.”
