Liverpool transfers: The Reds say they expect Luis Suárez to honour his contract after the striker admitted he wants to leave
Liverpool insist Luis Suárez is not for sale and expect the striker to honour his Reds contract.
The 26-year-old told a news conference that he no longer “feels comfortable” at the Merseyside outfit amid reported interest from Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.
However, the 18-time English champions say Suárez, who signed a new long-term deal last August, has not informed the Reds of his desire to quit and won’t be selling their prized asset this summer.
A Liverpool statement read: “Luis Suárez is not for sale – neither Luis or his representatives have communicated these feelings directly to Liverpool.
“The club remains supportive of Luis and expect him to honour his contract.
“We will not be making any further comment at this stage.”
Suárez had earlier said: “My reason for leaving is not the money.
“If it were for the money I would have left already. My main reason is my family and my image – that’s my priority now.
“It’s a difficult moment for me. The coach and my colleagues know that they didn’t treat me well [in England].
“I don’t feel comfortable here any more, so I think it’s understandable that I leave.”
Suárez, who joined Liverpool in January 2011, scored 23 Premier League goals this season before receiving a 10-game ban for biting Branislav Ivanović in a 2-2 draw with Chelsea in April.
