Liverpool transfers: Martin Skrtel to Napoli is impossible, says agent
Liverpool transfers: Martin Skrtel's agent plays down the chances of the defender following Rafael Benitez to Napoli
Martin Skrtel is likely to remain at Liverpool despite speculation linking the defender with Napoli, according to the Slovakian’s agent.
The 28-year-old’s future at the Merseyside outfit is in doubt after the centre-half was limited to 23 Premier League starts under Reds boss Brendan Rodgers this season.
Skrtel, who penned a new long-term deal with the club last summer, has expressed his dismay following his “worst season” at Liverpool since joining the Merseyside outfit in 2008.
Newly-appointed Napoli boss Rafael Benítez was responsible for bringing the Slovakia international to the Reds in a £6.5m deal from Zenit St Petersburg.
But Skrtel’s agent Karol Csonto does not envisage the Liverpool defender linking up with his former manager in Naples.
“It’s not possible; I consider it a very difficult deal,” Csonto told calciomercato.it.
“I like Napoli and I have great respect for this club, but Martin still has a three-year contract with Liverpool and the most likely outcome is that he remains there.”
And on his client’s relationship with Benítez, Csonto added: “They spent three years together, establishing a good relationship with him, but I repeat now that this suggestion is impossible.”
Skrtel has scored nine goals in 206 appearances for Liverpool after completing a £6.5m move from Zenit St Petersburg in 2008.
