Chris Hughton heaped praise on Norwich City for a fully-deserved victory after Manchester City suffered a shock loss to the Canaries at the Etihad Stadium.

The visitors took the lead when Wes Hoolahan teed up Anthony Pilkington, before Jack Rodwell levelled midway through the first half.

Hughton’s men were ahead again in the 54th minute but Rodwell proved to be the Citizens saviour once more as he levelled just moments later.

But Norwich were rewarded for a valiant performance when Jonny Howson’s brilliant run from midfield went unchallenged and he finished past Joe Hart to secure the Canaries’ second away win of the season.

“The manner in which we achieved this win is most pleasing. You know they [Man City] are going to have the bulk of possession but we did really well with the ball,” Hughton told BBC Sport.

“We were always a threat and I don’t think anyone who saw that would say that we weren’t worthy of what we got today.

“We would have liked to make the end of the season more comfortable, but it’s about where you finish up. We had some good form before Christmas and struggled since, but we have played well in the last few games.”

On Norwich’s plans for the summer, Hughton added: “At least we can plan a pre-season now, it’s been tough not knowing what division we would be in.

“We want to develop and we have a very good side that has served us well this season. We won’t forget that, but if we are able to strengthen then we will.

“Anyone we bring in has to be the right player, but it is our responsibility to the fans to try to keep improving.”
