Man City transfers: Napoli confirm talks over Edinson Cavani
Man City transfers: Napoli hold talks with Manchester City over a possible swap deal involving Edinson Cavani and Edin Dzeko
Napoli have held talks with Manchester City over a possible swap deal involving Edinson Cavani and Edin Dzeko, the Italian club’s chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis has revealed.
Cavani, who has also been linked with Chelsea, is understood to be one of City’s top transfer targets this summer after having scored an impressive 38 goals in 43 games for Napoli this season.
It had been claimed that De Laurentiis travelled to London in recent days to discuss the possibility of Chelsea interim boss Rafael Benítez taking over at Napoli.
But the Napoli supremo said he was in the capital to prepare for the promotional launch of a new film and revealed the club held talks with the Citizens over a potential deal for Cavani.
“I did not go to London for Benítez,” De Laurentiis told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“Yesterday [Monday] I was in London with [administrator Andrea] Chiavelli and [sporting director Riccardo] Bigon and for a simple reason: I have to prepare for the release of the film on Steve Jobs.
“Then I told Bigon to go and see if Manchester City want to negotiate over Dzeko and what they want to do about Cavani.”
The news comes after Cavani’s agent claimed last week that his client’s future “will become clear” soon.
“Cavani in this moment has a contract with Napoli, but something more about him will be known in the next days,” his agent Claudio Anellucci told Radio Sportiva.
The 26-year-old Cavani has scored 104 goals in 138 games since joining Napoli from Palermo back in 2010.
