Man City transfers: Roberto Mancini interested in Roma’s Marquinhos
Man City transfers: Citizens manager Roberto Mancini confirms he is an admirer of Roma defender Marquinhos
Roberto Mancini says he is an admirer of Roma defender Marquinhos but doubts Manchester City can prise the Brazilian away from the Italian capital.
The 18-year-old has enjoyed a breakthrough season in Serie A this term, making 25 top-flight appearances as Roma look to secure a top-five finish.
Mancini snapped up another highly-rated defender Matija Nastasic from Fiorentina last summer, with the Serbia international becoming a regular at the Eastlands outfit.
But the City boss doubts Roma would be willing to sign their up-and-coming South American star during the summer transfer window.
“Marquinhos I like a lot, but I do not think that Roma are willing to sell him,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“With just two signings next year the Giallorossi can win the Scudetto.”
Meanwhile, Mancini compared Liverpool striker Luis Suárez to former City forward Mario Balotelli – but the Italian played down speculation linking the Citizens with a move for the Uruguayan.
“Suárez reminds me of Balotelli. Partly because he looks for trouble, but there is also aggressiveness towards him,” he added.
“As player, however, we have not discussed this.”
