Man City transfers: Shakhtar’s Fernandinho wants Citizens move
Man City transfers: Fernandinho underlines his desire to complete a move to the Citizens from Ukraine side Shakhtar Donetsk
Fernandinho has underlined his desire to join Manchester City in the summer transfer window.
The Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder, who is hoping to be part of his country’s World Cup squad for next year’s tournament, has been regularly linked with a move to the Citizens over the past 12 months.
The 28-year-old has scored five goals in 32 appearances for the Ukrainian side Shakhtar this season, including the winner in a 2-1 victory over Chelsea in the Champions League group stage.
And Fernandinho, who in January admitted he wanted to join the FA Cup finalists, has not given up hope of completing a switch to the Etihad Stadium.
“I believe my chances of making the World Cup squad will improve if I join City,” Fernandinho is quoted as saying by the Sun.
“My exposure would be better, because Brazil is biased towards the Ukrainian league.
“What we do here is not recognised in my country. Playing in a division, at a club that is considered among the best in the world would help me get back in the Brazilian national team.
“There are a lot of people in England with good football knowledge. Those complement my skills and motivate me to want to play in the Premier League.”
Fernandinho has scored 31 goals in 182 top-flight appearances for Shakhtar after joining the Donetsk side from Atletico Paranaense in 2005.
