Man United transfers: Rio Ferdinand reiterates his desire to stay at Old Trafford beyond the summer and predicts "bright future" at club
Rio Ferdinand has reiterated his desire to stay at Manchester United beyond the summer, insisting he wants to be part of the Red Devils’ “bright future”.
The 34-year-old defender’s future has been a source of speculation in recent months, with his current contract set to expire in the summer.
But Ferdinand, who scored the winner for United in Sunday’s 2-1 win over Swansea City at Old Trafford, wants to extend his stay at the club.
“Manchester United has a bright future,” Ferdinand told MUTV after Sir Alex Ferguson’s last home game in charge of the club.
“The manager has left the club in great health and we are looking forward. We have a great number of good young players who are eager to win things and be successful and work hard,” he said.
“That is what the manager has instilled in these players. The work ethic has to continue if we are going to be successful.
“I would like to be part of that.”
Ferdinand has made over 290 appearances for United since joining the club from Leeds United back in 2002.
