Phil Jones is looking forward to get a full pre-season training run-out under his belt ahead of Manchester United’s title defence next term.

The former Blackburn Rovers defender was hampered by injury in the build-up to last season before becoming a regular fixture in Sir Alex Ferguson’s side.

And the 21-year-old, who started 13 Premier League games for the Red Devils this season, is keen to improve his strength and fitness in preparation for another demanding campaign.

“That’s important for me for the next season coming up. I think I’ve only had one pre-season and that was in my first season here so it’s important I get a full pre-season under my belt,” Jones told Inside United.

“I need to get fitter and stronger and mentally prepare myself for what will be another tough season again.”
