Robin van Persie named Premier League player of the month for April after firing six goals to help Manchester United win the title
Robin van Persie has been named as the Premier League player of the month for April after firing six goals to help Manchester United win the title.
The Dutchman’s hat-trick in the 3-0 victory over Aston Villa, which included a stunning volley, at Old Trafford wrapped up United’s 20th English top-flight crown.
The 29-year-old has scored 25 league goals for the Red Devils since moving to Manchester from Arsenal last August.
Speaking last month, United boss Sir Alex Ferguson praised the striker for the impact he has had since arriving at the club.
“He has never disappointed us I knew he could gel into the team,” said Ferguson. “In terms of impact he has had as big an impact as anyone I can imagine.
“Eric Cantona was an incredible impact player and I have been very, very lucky in that I have had some fantastic strikers right through, probably 10 great strikers at the club.
“I think we had an expectation of Robin because his performance last year for Arsenal was sensational. We saw him last year and knew he could gel into the way our team was, and he has never disappointed us.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea interim boss Rafael Benítez won the manager of the month award for April.
