Nemanja Vidic says Manchester United’s new manager David Moyes is “a winner” like his predecessor Sir Alex Ferguson.

The 50-year-old will take over at Old Trafford on a six-year deal on 1 July after Ferguson announced he will retire at the end of the season following a 26-year reign at the club.

Moyes has failed to win a trophy at the Toffees since taking charge 11 years ago, with the Merseyside outfit losing 2-1 to Chelsea in the FA Cup final at Wembley in 2009.

But Vidic, who was signed by Ferguson in a £7m deal from Spartak Moscow in 2005, is undeterred by Moyes’ lack of silverware and is looking forward to working with the Everton boss next season.

“I’m looking forward to working with David and I believe I will have the same success I had with Sir Alex,” Vidic said.

“David and Sir Alex share some similarities – they are very passionate, they are both winners and you can see the way they approach the games and how they run things.

“David Moyes did a great job with Everton. He is a man who gets his players to work hard and show discipline.

“He did that well with Everton because in the last few years they’ve been successful in getting into the top six.”
