Nemanja Vidic says Manchester United should look at the success of Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich in the Champions League this season.

The Red Devils, who lifted their 20th top-flight crown in April, suffered a 3-2 aggregate loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League last-16 this term, before Los Blancos were eliminated by Dortmund in the semi-finals last week.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich were emphatic 7-0 aggregate winners against Barcelona in the last four to book their place in the Wembley showpiece and set up the first-ever all-German Champions League final.

And Vidic, who played in both European finals United lost to Barça, reckons the Red Devils should analyse the two German powerhouses as they plot their bid for a fourth Champions League crown next season.

“Credit to Bayern. I think they play very good football,” Vidic told United’s website.

“They play as a team and they closed down the Barcelona players very quickly, going in groups. It’s hard to play against these kind of teams.

“Dortmund played against Madrid in a similar way to show this is the tendency in Germany football.

“I think it’s something we should look at. Maybe this is the way other teams have to improve. Over a few years, people were watching Barcelona and saying this is how you should play.

“If you look at Dortmund and Bayern now, you see that they work as a team and individuals and this is why they are having success.”
