Phil Jones has backed David Moyes to hit the ground running when he takes over from Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United this summer.

Ferguson oversaw his last competitive home game in charge of the Red Devils on Sunday as United ran out 2-1 winners over Swansea City, before the newly-crowned champions were presented with the Premier League trophy.

And the defender is fully expecting Moyes to be a success when he takes the reins at Old Trafford on 1 July.

“We have just picked a trophy up and we want to win more,” Jones told United’s website.

“Hopefully, this is the first of many and I’m sure the new boss will come in and do another fantastic job.”

Jones, 21, this weekend picked up his first Premier League winner’s medal since joining the club from Blackburn Rovers back in 2011.

And the England international could not hide his delight at ending his wait for a first league triumph.

“It is an incredible feeling [to win the league],” he continued. “I can’t sum up in words what it means to me, my family and my friends. It is an incredible feeling and it is an incredible day.”
