QPR 0 Arsenal 1: Arsene Wenger is thrilled to see his Arsenal side claim a "vital" victory and move up into third place
Arsene Wenger was thrilled to see his Arsenal side claim a “vital” victory at Queens Park Rangers and move up into third place in the table.
Theo Walcott scored the eventual winner just 21 seconds into the game at Loftus Road to net the fastest Premier League goal of the season.
The Gunners’ win came after Tottenham had temporarily moved ahead of their north London rivals with victory over Southampton at White Hart Lane.
And Wenger knew that his side could ill afford to drop points in west London as they kept their Champions League qualification hopes alive.
“I would prefer to win 4-0 but of course the three points were vital for us today,” said Wenger.
“We are focused in every single game and have been for a long, long time.
“We know what we want and we are ready to have a go to get it. We’ve shown that again today even if we couldn’t score the second goal.”
Wenger, whose side do not play until 14 May when they host Wigan Athletic, continued: “We’re on a very strong run and want that to carry on until the end of the season.
“You can only win your own games and watch what happens elsewhere. Chelsea play Tottenham on Wednesday and they’re at Manchester United tomorrow.
“Ideally you would like to be there without anybody catching you back but it’s interesting for everybody in the Premier League and it’s now about the team who is the most consistent.
“Football is unpredictable but for three months we’ve been in a position where we cannot drop points.”
