QPR 0 Arsenal 1: Harry Redknapp hails ‘outstanding’ Andros Townsend
QPR 0 Arsenal 1: Harry Redknapp heaps praise on winger Andros Townsend despite the Gunners's slender win at Loftus Road
Harry Redknapp heaped praise on Queens Park Rangers winger Andros Townsend for an “outstanding” performance after Arsenal secured a narrow victory at Loftus Road.
The Gunners took the lead within 20 seconds as England international Theo Walcott capitalised on poor defending by the home side and netted his 13th Premier League goal of the season.
QPR did improve and Townsend, who is on loan from Arsenal’s top-four rivals Tottenham Hotspur, brought the fight to the Gunners with a series of mesmerising runs on the right wing and a dangerous free-kick.
Arsenal target Loic Remy came close to levelling in the second half, with Wojciech Szczęsny producing a fine save to deny the French striker, while Lukas Podolski also tested Hoops keeper Rob Green.
“When you go 1-0 down to Arsenal in the first minute then you fear the worse, but I felt we played every bit as well as them,” Redknapp told BBC Sport.
“I felt we were always a threat and Andros Towsend was outstanding. I don’t know where we’ll get another Townsend from, he’ll go back to Tottenham a better play.”
Redknapp added that he is relishing the challenge of managing QPR in the Championship, with the Hoops boss attending a second-tier match earlier on Saturday.
“I’m looking forward to the challenge next season. I went to watch a [Championship] game today because we’re going to be in that division next season.”
