QPR 0 Arsenal 1: Gunners ‘don’t care’ about other teams’ results – Walcott
QPR 0 Arsenal 1: Theo Walcott insists Arsenal "don't care" about the results of the other teams in the top-four race
Theo Walcott insisted Arsenal “don’t care” about the results of the other teams in the top-four race after his early goal handed the Gunners victory at Queens Park Rangers.
Walcott netted after just 21 seconds at Loftus Road – the fastest goal in the Premier League this season – to hand Arsene Wenger’s men a win that hoists them into third place in the table.
Tottenham had temporarily moved above the Gunners with their 1-0 triumph over Southampton earlier in the day, and Chelsea take on Manchester United on Sunday.
But Walcott insists Arsenal are only focused on their own results after helping them to their first-ever Premier League win at Loftus Road.
“We can recover well during the week, we don’t play for a good 10 days now,” man-of-the-match Walcott told ESPN.
“It’s always important to have the points on the board and let the other teams worry about us.
“We’re not going to care about anyone else – as long as we get the three points every week we’ll be right up there come the end of the season.”
Walcott’s winner was his 20th goal of the season in all competitions and the England international feels he has improved his finishing this term.
“I’ve just been more clinical I suppose,” he said. “I’ve managed to take my opportunities and I’ve got great team-mates that are supplying me.
“I’m enjoying playing my football. When you’re scoring goals and the team’s winning it makes your job so much easier.”
Walcott also praised Arsenal’s defence for keeping another crucial clean sheet, with Wojciech Szczesny producing an outstanding second-half save to deny Loic Remy.
“It’s been important keeping clean sheets,” he added. “We’ve always believed that we can do that and if you keep clean sheets you move up the table.
“We’re showing how good we are at the back and we’re keeping it very tight.”
Arsenal’s next Premier League game is a home clash against Wigan Athletic on 14 May.
