Robin van Persie admits that he is desperate to build on his successful first season at Manchester United next term
Robin van Persie has admitted he is desperate to build on his successful first season at Manchester United next term.
The Dutchman was an integral part of the Red Devils’ Premier League title success as he hit 26 goals to help them win their 20th top-flight crown.
The 29-year-old was rewarded for an impressive debut campaign at Old Trafford by winning the club’s player of the year crown and also scooping the Premier League Golden Boot.
But Van Persie, who joined United in a £24m deal from Arsenal last summer, is already looking forward next season.
“This title makes me happy, it did make me happy, but I want more now because we have a great team and the mentality is unbelievable,” Van Persie told MUTV.
“We can all play football, we work hard for each other and I believe there is more in the locker.
“But it feels unbelievable. It is just a happy feeling in your belly, it’s like you are on a cloud almost every day. There are moments, like when you are in your car driving and listening to music, when the happy feeling comes along and you think, ‘yes we are champions, we did it’.”
He added: “Next year? The Double will do!”
Van Persie also paid tribute to Sir Alex Ferguson after the 71-year-old called time on his decorated 26-year career at Old Trafford.
“We know him better than some other people,” he added. “He looks after us like his own kids, he always protects us, he is very helpful, he’s positive and his meetings are incredible.
“It is just a joy to listen to his words and the things he says are always spot on.”
