Sam Allardyce delighted with West Ham United’s ‘thrilling’ win
Sam Allardyce is thrilled by his West Ham United side's impressive victory over Reading as they secured a 10th-place finish
Sam Allardyce was thrilled by his West Ham United side’s impressive victory over Reading after the Hammers secured a 10th-place finish with a 4-2 win.
Kevin Nolan’s hat-trick and a Ricardo Vaz Te strike helped sink the relegated Royals despite a brief fightback from the visitors, who had drawn level in the second half through Garath McCleary and Adam Le Fondre.
“It was a thrilling performance and a game,” Allardyce told West Ham’s website. “Because we had that 15 minutes where we all thought we were going to come out in the second half and continue where we left off. Reading stunned us and scored two very clever goals.
“But the team got their composure back again and when we needed Kevin again, that’s what he’s good at. When he scores his goals, they’re always very important.”
Allardyce also reserved special praise for captain Nolan after his hat-trick at Upton Park to his tally to 10 goals for the season.
“In the opposition’s box he has always been top class,” he continued. “It’s another ten-goal haul in the Premier League.
“Finishing the season with a hat-trick has got to be thrilling for him, his family, the fans and everyone connected with West Ham.”
