Tottenham moved up to fourth in the Premier League table after goals from Clint Dempsey and Emmanuel Adebayor helped Spurs come from behind to win 2-1 against 10-man Stoke City.

The home side took an early lead through Steven Nzonzi’s header from a free-kick but Dempsey then fired into an empty net after a mix-up in the Stoke defence.

Charlie Adam was sent off for a second bookable offence in the second half, before Adebayor tapped home from close range from Dempsey’s cross to keep Tottenham’s Champions League qualification hopes alive.

Here is the best of the reaction from the professionals past and present, after Andre Villas-Boas’s men sealed a vital win at the Britannia Stadium.

Celebrity Arsenal Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) tells Stoke their game-plan: “Your orders, Stoke > park the bus, don’t leave your penalty box.”

Former Charlton forward Jason Euell (@jasoneuell) is hoping the home side can do Arsenal a favour in the top-four race: “Go on Stoke… #GoonerFamily”

Former Tottenham chairman Lord Sugar (@Lord_Sugar) is not happy as Nzonzi gives Stoke the lead in the third minute: “Always on free kicks or corners we let opponents score. Bloody joke. What’s the matter with AVB? How many more times does he have to see this?”

England legend Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) warns Spurs that Stoke are still up for it despite Dempsey’s goal: “Spurs equalise. This is becoming uncanny. Stoke still right in this though.”

Ex-Chelsea midfielder Jody Morris (@morriskid) chimes in: “Spurs are setting up tents here. Reluctant to get numbers in the box though.”

Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore (@StanCollymore) tells Villas-Boas who he should bring on: “Spurs need to get Dembele & Defoe on. Dominating and camped on Stoke 18yd box but not finding that pass, that shot.”

Lord Sugar offers some tactical advice of his own, just before Adebayor pops up with the winner: “AVB has to take Adebayor off he is useless today.”

And he adds: “After me slagging him off all of the game, guess what? Adebayor scores. 2-1”

And finally, Injured Tottenham midfielder Sandro (@sandroraniere) cannot hide his delight at the final whistle as Spurs move up to fourth: “Yessss…. Come on you spurss…”
