Tottenham transfers: Andre Villas-Boas is confident Spurs can keep Gareth Bale beyond the summer

Andre Villas-Boas insists Tottenham Hotspur are confident Gareth Bale will stay at the north London club beyond the summer.
The Wales international, who scooped the PFA player and young player of the year awards in April, has been linked with La Liga giants Barcelona and Real Madrid, as well as Manchester United after a sensational season.
The 23-year-old has scored 20 Premier League goals from midfield, cementing his status as one of the English top-flight’s best players, and Spurs are keen to tie down Bale to a new long-term deal.
Villas-Boas, who previously urged Spurs to offer Bale a new contract, refused to shed any light on talks over a possible new deal – but the Tottenham manager is hoping to keep hold of the talismanic Welshman.
“I’m not sure [about whether Bale is close to signing a new deal], our interest is for the player to continue here and I’ve made that very clear,” said Villas-Boas.
“Whatever is happening, the idea is for the player to be here next season.
“I have said this numerous times. We are pretty confident we will be able to keep him.”
Bale has scored 54 goals in 202 appearances for Spurs after completing a £7m move to the north Londoners from Southampton in 2007.
