Tottenham transfers: Christian Benteke wants new Aston Villa deal
Tottenham transfers: Christian Benteke's agent says the Belgian striker is hoping to pen a new Aston Villa deal
Christian Benteke wants to hold talks with Aston Villa about a new improved contract, according to the striker’s agent.
The Belgium international has been a key part of Villa’s successful bid to beat the drop, netting 19 goals in his first season in the Premier League.
Benteke has unsurprisingly attracted interest from Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, while Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund are also being linked with a move for the forward.
But the 22-year-old’s agent Eris Kismet has indicated that the Villa striker is hoping to be rewarded for his fine form with a new deal at the 1982 European Cup winners.
“Now that Villa’s future is secure I hope we can have discussions by the end of this week. If not, then next week,” said Kismet.
“We did the transfer deal last summer with Aston Villa with a lot of respect. We hope that discussions on a new contract will be done in the same way.
“Villa have said they want to speak for several weeks, but it has been difficult because of the situation in the Premier League. Now they are safe the situation will change.”
Kismet added: “A lot of scouts from many teams have an interest in Christian. Now Villa’s future in the Premier League is decided we will know more.
“It is natural for many teams to show an interest when Christian has had such a good season.”
