Tottenham transfers: Gareth Bale ‘will not leave Spurs this summer’
Gareth Bale will not be quitting Tottenham this summer, according to ex-Spurs defender Graham Roberts
Gareth Bale will not be quitting Tottenham this summer even if they miss out on a top-four finish, according to ex-Spurs defender Graham Roberts.
The 23-year-old is fast becoming one of the most sought-after players in Europe after netting 20 league goals to fuel Spurs’ bid for Champions League qualification and scooping the PFA player of the year award for the second time.
The Wales international has been linked with both Real Madrid and Barcelona, with Manchester United also touted as a possible destination for the winger should he opt to quit White Hart Lane.
But Roberts, who won two FA Cups and a Uefa Cup during his spell at Spurs between 1980 and 1986, is adamant that the north Londoners’ talisman will not be leaving the club this summer.
“Gareth Bale will not leave the club this year”, Roberts told talkSPORT.
“I’ve been to the new training ground lately and he’s absolutely enjoying the football and his family love it down here.
“He’s seeing what Tottenham are putting together, the club are building gradually.
“They’re building a new stadium within the next few years, and they’ve got a training ground that’s better than any other in the world.
“They’ve got a player that they have to build the team around, and Bale knows that.”
Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas, whose side must beat Sunderland on Sunday to have any chance of pipping Arsenal to a top-four finish, on Friday declared he was confident Bale will remain at the club beyond the summer.
