Tottenham transfers: Zinedine Zidane says Tottenham's asking price for Gareth Bale won't be an issue for Europe's top clubs
Real Madrid ambassador Zinedine Zidane believes Europe’s top clubs would be willing to cough up a big transfer fee to secure Gareth Bale’s services.
The Tottenham Hotspur winger won the PFA player of the year and young player of the year awards on Sunday after scoring 19 goals in 29 Premier League appearances.
Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas has reiterated his desire to keep Bale at White Hart Lane amid reported interest from La Liga duo Barcelona and Real Madrid.
But Zidane reckons the world’s biggest clubs will not baulk at the prospect of having to pay a huge transfer fee if it secured the signature of one of Europe’s in-form players.
“After the season he has just had – and still being so young, of course – Gareth Bale is going to be one of the most expensive players in the world if he decides to move,” said Zidane.
“Tottenham could demand £40m, £50m, maybe even £60m for him. It is a lot of money, but there are maybe three or four teams in the world that can pay that sort of transfer fee, and it won’t put them off.
“A player like Bale can be the difference between a big club winning the league or the Champions League.
“They would be getting the best player in Europe this season – and he is at an age where he can still play at the top for another 10 years.”
