Tottenham transfers: Spurs reopen talks over Leandro Damiao move
Tottenham transfers: Spurs have held fresh transfer talks with Internacional about the potential signing of Leandro Damiao
Tottenham have held fresh transfer talks with Internacional about the potential signing of Leandro Damiao, the Brazilian club’s president has revealed.
Tottenham are long-term admirers of the Brazil international and are understood to have come close to landing the 23-year-old in the January transfer window.
Damiao has also been linked with a move to Serie A side Napoli in recent months but Giovanni Luigi has hinted that the forward could be set to move to England.
“If a club want a player, they must talk to the president of the club at which that particular player plays, and not just deal with the agent – that is not correct behaviour,” Luigi told Tutto Mercato.
“Recently we talked with Tottenham, Leandro is very likely to play games in England in the coming year. On the other hand, we can exclude Napoli.”
Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas is a keen admirer of Damiao and said that the striker was one of the north London club’s top transfer targets in the winter.
“For Damiao, he had a spectacular Olympics. We follow the best players and youngsters. Leandro fits this profile,” Villas-Boas said back in January. “He has had injuries after London 2012, but he is a player that is always on our list.”
