No Wembley talk! Kompany wants Man City to secure European spot
Man City's Vincent Kompany wants the Citizens to forget about next Saturday's FA Cup final when they face West Brom on Tuesday
Vincent Kompany has urged Manchester City to secure their Champions League spot before turning their thoughts to Saturday’s FA Cup final.
The Citizens take on West Bromwich Albion at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night as Roberto Mancini’s men look to move 10 points clear of fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.
City limped to a goalless draw with Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium at the weekend, with Edin Dzeko and David Silva both guilty of wasting the club’s best opportunities to secure three points.
The Eastlands outfit were accused of allowing the prospect of the cup final to distract them from securing a win at the Swans, and Kompany wants his team-mates to focus on getting three points against the Baggies.
“Saturday is a big, big day for the club, it’s massive and everyone realises that,” said Kompany.
“But it would be nice to win the game against West Brom first. That would set us up really nicely to focus on the final.
“It’s really important that we qualify for the Champions League first.
“There is no other way to think about this game.
“Until we are safe for that Champions League spot we have to play the game like every other game.”
City are bidding to win their second FA Cup crown in three seasons after Mancini’s men failed to defend their Premier League title this term.
