Robin van Persie is convinced Manchester United will continue to challenge for trophies under David Moyes after Sir Alex Ferguson’s 26-year reign came to an end with a 10-goal thriller at West Bromwich Albion.

United were 3-0 up at The Hawthorns after half an hour thanks to Shinji Kagawa’s opener, Jonas Olsson’s own goal and Alexander Buttner’s strike.

But the Baggies pulled one back just before the break through James Morrison, before Romelu Lukaku made it 3-2.

Van Persie and Javier Hernandez then struck to make it 5-2, however another two finishes from Lukaku and a Youssouf Mulumbu goal late on ensured a thrilling game ended all square.

“This is a great bunch of players,” Van Persie, who scored his 26th league goal of the season and picked up the top flight’s Golden Boot on Sunday, told MUTV.

“Everybody wants to work for each other and share the success and I’m 100 per cent sure that we will play for trophies every year and, hopefully, win a few every year. That’s our standard for this team.

“The Premier League means everything and the Golden Boot is like a little bit extra but, as I explained last week, I think they should make 25 of them because we do it together.”

Van Persie, 29, insists that the Red Devils are looking forward to working under new manager Moyes, who will take over at Old Trafford on 1 July.

“Of course, we get a new manager next year and everybody is looking forward to that,” he continued. “It’s a new challenge for everyone. We’ll have a nice break now and then we go again.”
