West Ham transfers: Álvaro Negredo wants Champions League football
West Ham transfers: Sevilla striker Álvaro Negredo says he will only join a club who have qualified for the Champions League
Álvaro Negredo will only leave Sevilla to join a club playing in the Champions League next season, according to the striker’s agent.
The Spain international is reported to be a West Ham United target this summer, with Everton and Tottenham Hotspur previously linked with the forward.
The 27-year-old has scored 20 goals in 34 La Liga appearances, but the striker appears to have his heart set on playing in Europe’s premier club competition next term.
“We are calm and at the end of the season, we will look at things but the choice lies with Sevilla,” his agent Juanma Lopez told Sky Sports.
Lopez added to Marca: “He would only accept an offer from a club that is in the Champions League.”
With the Hammers looking unlikely to sign Negredo, Sam Allardyce is optimistic the east London side can secure Andy Carroll on a permanent deal from Liverpool in the summer.
“He has shown everybody what he can do and he has massive potential to grow into a very good player if he ends up back here with us,” said Allardyce on Sunday.
“He’s so willing to learn and become better that I think we could do well for each other, but there is a way to go before that might get sorted.
“It’s about negotiation and both parties have to be happy that the negotiation cannot go any farther and it’s a ‘yes’ or ‘no’. We hope it’s a ‘yes’ and we hope it is as quickly as possible.”
