Joe Cole insists West Ham United are desperate to sign Andy Carroll on a permanent basis as his loan spell from Liverpool comes to an end.
The England international has impressed for the east London club in recent weeks after joining the Hammers from Anfield last summer, scoring seven league goals and making two assists.
Sam Allardyce has made no secret of his desire to sign the 24-year-old on a long-term deal but concedes that the club could be priced out of a move for the former Newcastle man.
And midfielder Cole admits that he would love to see Carroll, who is West Ham’s joint top scorer this term, extend his spell at Upton Park beyond the summer.
“West Ham definitely want to keep Andy Carroll,” Cole told talkSPORT.
“I don’t know the ins and outs of the deal but the way he’s been playing in the last couple of weeks you can understand why Liverpool paid £35m for him a couple of years ago.
“I think all the boys want him to stay at West Ham. He’s a man though and he has his own agenda. I don’t know what Liverpool are thinking and I’m sure there will be be other clubs in for him.
“West Ham would like to keep him, he’s our top scorer. He’s got to do what’s right for him though.”
