Arsenal transfers: Five players who could join the Gunners this summer
Arsenal transfers: The Sport Review takes a look at five players who could end up securing summer moves to the Gunners
The Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper has been heavily linked with a switch across London following the Hoops’ relegation from the top flight, speculation that has heightened after the Brazil international claimed he was keen on staying in the capital. The Gunners are reported to be ready to part with £1m to land the 33-year-old and have apparently held formal talks over a move for the shot-stopper in recent days as Arsene Wenger looks to add competition for Lukasz Fabianski and Wojciech Szczesny at Emirates Stadium.
Speculation about the England international’s future has been rife since Sir Alex Ferguson revealed that the striker had a transfer request rejected by Manchester United towards the end of the season. Arsenal have since emerged as one of the front-runners to sign the 27-year-old along with Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain. Wenger this week admitted his interest in the forward, saying: “Rooney could be an interesting player for everybody in the world, who would turn him down?” One stumbling block to a potential move to the north Londoners, however, is likely to be the striker’s wage demands – although a recent report suggested that Arsenal would be willing to break their wage structure and offer Rooney a deal worth £200,000 a week.
The Gunners have long been linked with a big-money swoop for the Montenegro international, and the forward looks set to depart Fiorentina this summer after relentless speculation over his future. Jovetić, who has also been linked with Manchester City, is valued at £25m by the Serie A side and Arsenal are understood to have held preliminary talks over a deal for the 23-year-old back in April. However, the player himself has stressed in the past that he would be keen to stay in Italy and he has been linked with a transfer to champions Juventus. The latest twist in the saga came earlier this week when Fiorentina sporting director Daniele Prade insisted that Jovetić is not for sale.
The Real Madrid forward has attracted the interest of a number of European clubs after confirming his desire to leave the Bernabeu earlier this month. The 25-year-old, who has scored 122 goals in 266 games for the La Liga giants, fuelled reports linking him with Arsenal when he declared that the Gunners would “suit him” earlier this week. However, Juventus have tabled a £18.8m bid for the Argentina international if the latest reports are to be believed and are now in pole position to snap up the striker.
The France striker, who scored six goals in 14 games after moving to Loftus Road from Nice in January, is another player set to depart QPR following their drop down to the Championship. Wenger is a keen admirer of the 26-year-old forward, who is reported to have a £6m release clause in his Hoops contract due to the club’s relegation. Speaking back in May, Wenger said of Remy: “He is a talented player who plays for the French national team. He is a very efficient striker.” The player himself would apparently favour a move to Arsenal, although he has also been linked with Tottenham, Liverpool and Everton.
