Arsenal transfers: Gonzalo Higuaín edging ‘closer’ to Gunners move
Arsenal transfers: Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain is close to a move to the Gunners, according to his agent and brother
Gonzalo Higuaín is close to a move to Arsenal, according to the Real Madrid striker’s brother.
The Argentina international has openly stated that he wants to leave Los Blancos this summer after struggling to hold down a regular starting spot at the Bernabeu.
Arsenal are believed to be competing with Juventus to secure the forward’s services – and his agent and brother, Nicolas Higuaín, hinted the Gunners are winning the race to sign the Argentine.
“I think that Higuaín is now closer to Arsenal,” Higuaín’s brother told TMW.
“Juventus are a great club, but Gonzalo is too expensive for them.”
The 25-year-old has also been linked with a switch to Napoli, with Edinson Cavani possibly heading to the La Liga runners-up.
But the Madrid star’s agent revealed Higuaín is now ” close” to joining Arsene Wenger’s side.
“Napoli are a strong side and that place represents a lot for Argentines,” he added. “Saying that, I can’t deny that Gonzalo is now close to Arsenal.”
Higuaín scored 16 goals and made six assists in 28 La Liga appearances last season, taking his tally to 122 strikes since joining the club from River Plate in 2007.
