Arsenal transfers: Former Gunners defender Lee Dixon reckons Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuaín would be a quality signing
Lee Dixon believes Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuaín would be a quality signing for Arsenal this summer.
The Gunners are leading the race to sign the Argentina international and are reported to be prepared to offer the forward a £130,000-a-week contract.
Arsene Wenger is believed to be keen to bolster his attacking options after Gunners forward Olivier Giroud endured a mixed first season in the Premier League.
And Dixon reckons Higuaín would thrive in Wenger’s attacking Arsenal side.
“If it comes off [Higuaín signing for Arsenal], hopefully from an Arsenal point of view, he’s quality through and through,” Dixon told Sky Sports News.
“He will score goals there’s no doubt about that.
“He will get chances at Arsenal because they do create chances, they play his type of game so I think he’ll fit in really well.”
Higuaín scored 16 goals and made six assists in 28 La Liga appearances last season, taking his tally to 122 strikes since joining the club from River Plate in 2007.
