Arsenal transfers: Martínez expects Fellaini to remain at Everton
Arsenal transfers: Everton manager Roberto Martínez says he expects Marouane Fellaini to stay at the club this summer
Roberto Martínez says he expects Marouane Felliani to be at Everton next season despite reports of interest from Arsenal and Manchester United interest.
The Spaniard, who led Wigan Athletic to the FA Cup in May, was named as David Moyes’ successor at Goodison Park on Wednesday and immediately set his sights on qualifying for the Champions League.
Fellaini would be a key part of Martínez’s plans to guide Everton into the top four, and the new Toffees boss is confident the Belgium international won’t leave this summer.
“I don’t think it’s an issue,” Martínez said.
“You are not talking about a player who is out of the squad or in negotiations with another club. I won’t look to speak to him about this because there is nothing to speak about.
“What I want is him to be ready for next season, to be ready to take an important role at the club and understand that it is a big season for him.
“As an individual, he has got an exciting your in front of him and I don’t think he is personally thinking, “Am I going to be here?” I don’t think that’s in his head.”
Fellaini has scored 32 goals in all competitions for Everton after completing a £15m move to Goodison Park from Standard Liege in 2008.
