Maxime Gonalons wants to stay at Lyon despite interest from Arsenal and Naploli, according to the club’s chairman Jean-Michel Aulas.

The 24-year-old has emerged as one of Lyon’s key players over the past two seasons, helping the club win the Coupe de France in 2012.

Gonalons scored four goals in 42 appearances in all competitions last season, attracting interest from the Gunners and Serie A outfit Napoli.

However, Lyon don’t want their skipper to leave the seven-time Ligue 1 champions during the current transfer window.

“Unfortunately there are several clubs that made offers, one of them superior to €13m (£11m),” said Aulas.

“But, he is part of our strategy. And with that I know, Maxime wants to stay at Lyon.”

Lyon are also fending off interest in former AC Milan midfielder Yoann Gourcuff, who has also been linked with the Gunners this summer.

And Lyon chief Aulas revealed the club would be willing to consider the midfielder’s sale but the Ligue 1 side are yet to receive any offers.

“Yoann is part of the players that have had no real success at Lyon,” added Aulas.

“We didn’t recieve an offer for him, but we had talks about a possible departure.”
