British & Irish Lions 2013: Alex Corbisiero called up as cover
Alex Corbisiero is called up to the British and Irish Lions squad as cover for injured prop Cian Healy
Alex Corbisiero has been called up to the British and Irish Lions squad as cover for injured prop Cian Healy.
Healy was carried off the field on a stretcher with what looked like a serious ankle injury in the first half of the Lions’ match against Western Force on Wednesday.
London Irish loose head Corbisiero will leave England’s touring squad in Argentina on Wednesday to fly to Australia and join up with Warren Gatland’s men.
“We’re delighted for Alex,” said England head coach Stuart Lancaster.
“It’s very pleasing for him after he missed the Six Nations through injury and he goes with our full support and blessing.
“All the England players and management couldn’t be more pleased for him to get this opportunity.”
England said that they have no plans to add a replacement to their squad in Argentina at this stage.
Meanwhile, Healy has been cited for allegedly biting Western Force scrum-half Brett Sheehan in the 17th minute of the 69-17 victory in Perth.
The Leinster prop will appear before a disciplinary hearing on Thursday and could face a lengthy ban if found guilty of the offence.
