Carlo Ancelotti has been confirmed as the new manager of Real Madrid on a three-year contract, with Laurent Blanc replacing the Italian as coach of Paris Saint-Germain.

Ancelotti, 54, has been long been linked with the Real Madrid job since Jose Mourinho’s exit and subsequent return to Chelsea earlier this month.

The Italian took charge of Chelsea in 2009, where he won the Community Shield, Premier League and FA Cup in his first season at Stamford Bridge.

After two seasons at the west London club, he joined Paris Saint-Germain in December 2011 and delivered the Ligue 1 side’s first French title in 19 years, before asking to leave the club in May.

The 47-year-old Blanc takes over at PSG on a two-year contract after leaving his post as France coach in the wake of Euro 2012.

“Paris Saint-Germain is delighted to announce the appointment of Laurent Blanc as coach for the next two years. He will take charge of the squad on 1 July 2013 for the start of pre-season training,” read a PSG statement.

“The board of Paris Saint-Germain has given Laurent Blanc the mission to build on last season and to continue the club’s ascendency towards the summits of the European game.”
