Cesar Azpilicueta predicts successful Chelsea return for Jose Mourinho
Cesar Azpilicueta is hoping Jose Mourinho's first season back at Chelsea will bring success to the west London side
Cesar Azpilicueta is hoping Jose Mourinho’s first season back at Chelsea will bring success to the west London side following a turbulent 2012-13 campaign.
Defender Azpilicueta, 23, joined the Blues from Marseille last summer and went on to make 48 appearances under Roberto Di Matteo and Rafael Benítez.
Mourinho was appointed as Benítez’s successor earlier this month after signing a four-year contract with the club he first managed between 2004 and 2007.
And Azpilicueta is hoping the Portuguese coach’s second stint in charge at Stamford Bridge will be as successful as his first, after he led the Blues to back-to-back Premier League titles in his first spell at the club.
“The season just gone was something different because we were eliminated in the group stage of the Champions League and that doesn’t usually happen,” Azpilicueta told Marca.
“I hope that next season is very good. In the dressing room we have spoken a little about [Mourinho] and everybody is very happy with his first spell at Chelsea. We hope that the second time is also successful.”
