Champions Trophy 2013: Bravo credits bowlers after West Indies win

Champions Trophy 2013: Dwayne Bravo praises his bowlers' performance during the West Indies' opening victory

By Callum Orr

Dwayne Bravo heaped praise on his bowlers after the West Indies beat Pakistan by two wickets at Edgbaston in the ICC Champions Trophy.

Electing to bowl first, pacer Kemar Roach and spinner Sunil Narine shared six wickets between them to dismiss Pakistan for 170 runs in just under three hours.

But the Windies found themselves paddling against the tide for much of their innings, before crawling over the line in the 41st over with just two wickets in hand.

But Bravo took plenty of positives from his side’s performance and credited his bowling attack for their efficient work in the opening innings.

“[It was a] tough situation. But a lot of credit goes to the boys. Kemar set the tone, backed up by [Ravi] Rampaul and Narine,” said Bravo.

“Yes it was a close match but it was important to get the nerves out of the way. We wanted to give the bowlers good use of a fresh pitch because we knew that Pakistan’s bowling is strong.”

It was a similar story for Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq, who was highly impressed by the effort of his bowling unit, but was ultimately left to rue his side’s batting collapse.

“The plan was to just see off the new ball but we lost too many wickets,” said the Pakistan captain.

“The West Indies bowlers bowled very well. When I and [Nasir] Jamshed were batting, we were aiming for a score somewhere between 240-250.

“But I am happy that the bowlers bowled with a lot of heart. We need to rectify the small mistakes for the coming games.”
