Jamie Carragher believes Chelsea are favourites to win next season’s Premier League title.

The Blues appointed Jose Mourinho on a four-year deal in June after interim manager Rafael Benítez left the club at the end of the season.

The west London side have already signed Germany international Andre Schürrle and are being heavily linked with a swoop for Edinson Cavani.

With talents such as Eden Hazard and Juan Mata in Chelsea’s ranks, Carragher reckons Mourinho’s men will be the side to stop in the English top flight.

“If I had to pick one side to win the league I would pick Chelsea,” Carragher told Sky Sports News.

“I just think they are a very good team. You look at last year and Luis Suarez, Gareth Bale and Robin van Persie were the top three players, but numbers four and five were Juan Mata and Eden Hazard – and they could, this season, go on to be the best players in the Premier League.

“The obvious three will be Chelsea, Man United and Man City. I see the top three the same as it is now, but I’d expect Chelsea to make a much stronger challenge for the title and maybe just pip Man United.”

Carragher, who failed to win the Premier League title, called time on a glittering 16-year career with Liverpool at the end of the 2012-13 campaign.
