He’s been so-so! Chelsea’s Mourinho critical of Torres’ impact
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho says Fernando Torres has been "so-so" since completing a move to the Blues in 2011
Jose Mourinho believes Fernando Torres has been “so-so” for Chelsea since completing a move to the Blues from Liverpool.
The Spain international has struggled to produce his best form for the west London club following a record £50m move to Stamford Bridge from Liverpool in January 2011.
Torres did make a marked improvement last season on previous campaigns as the 29-year-old scored 22 goals in 64 appearances in all competitions.
But Mourinho, who sealed a return to the Blues earlier this month, has not been overly impressed by the striker’s impact.
“Torres so far is so-so,” Mourinho is quoted as saying by the Daily Mirror.
“Somebody could expect more because of his potential, because of what he did before, but not so bad as people sometimes try to say. There is a balance.
“Normally the tendency is to say it was a big mistake. It was a big mistake because it didn’t work.
“Real Madrid and Kaka didn’t work 100 per cent. It’s not a mistake, it’s just a consequence of football and reasons.”
Torres scored 65 goals in 102 Premier League for Liverpool before completing a controversial move to Chelsea.
