Nemanja Matić has ruled out an immediate return to Chelsea amid speculation the Blues and Manchester United are keen to sign the defender.

The 24-year-old was one of the key players in the Benfica side which suffered a 2-1 loss to Chelsea in the Europa League final in Amsterdam in May.

The Serbian joined the Portuguese outfit from the Blues as part of a transfer deal which saw David Luiz complete a €25m switch to the west London outfit.

Chelsea, who unveiled Jose Mourinho as their new manager on Monday, have been linked with a bid to sign their former defender, but Matić wants to stay at Benfica.

He told the Guardian: “Frankly, I want to stay another year in Lisbon.

“Of course, someone like Jose Mourinho wanting me to go back to London would be an opportunity to prove that I can play in the Premier League, but I
want to achieve more at Benfica, particularly in the big games.”

Matić made just three appearances for Chelsea before joining on loan to Vitesse Arnhem in 2010.
