Bayer Leverkusen have confirmed that Chelsea have expressed an interest in signing Andre Schürrle – but insist that there is no formal agreement yet in place.

The Blues have long been linked with a move for the 22-year-old striker and Leverkusen chief Wolfgang Holzhauser claimed a deal had been agreed in principal last week.

However, Leverkusen general manager Rudi Voller insists that an agreement has not yet been reached between the two sides.

“I cannot confirm a transfer agreement,” Voller told Deutsche Presseagentur.

“Definitely, we have been in touch about it and we [Voller and Jose Mourinho] have talked to each other about it. But there is nothing to reveal.

“There is interest in the services of Andre Schürrle from Chelsea FC, but we will have to keep on waiting [for] the progress of those [for the] next few days.”

Germany international Schürrle, capped 23 times, has scored 11 goals and made six assists in 34 top-flight appearances for Leverkusen this season.
