Chelsea transfers: Edinson Cavani wants Napoli talks
Chelsea transfers: Napoli striker Edinson Cavani wants to hold talks with the club's president Aurelio De Laurentiis
Edinson Cavani says he wants to hold face-to-face talks with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis over his future.
The Uruguay international has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea and Manchester City in recent weeks, as well as La Liga giants Real Madrid.
On Sunday, De Laurentiis revealed that he wants Cavani to make a decision on his future by 20 July and urged the striker not to make a “joke” out of him.
But Cavani, who is currently playing for Uruguay at the Confederations Cup, was unimpressed by De Laurentiis’ ultimatum and the South American forward is keen to hold talks with his club.
“The quotes by the president were heavy and strong. I don’t like it,” Cavani said.
“I want to talk to him face to face.”
Cavani scored 29 goals in 34 Serie A appearances last season after signing a new deal with Napoli in August, which includes a £54m release clause.
But De Laurentiis is hoping the 26-year-old’s future can be resolved in the next month to leave time for Napoli to strengthen ahead of next season.
“I don’t think Cavani will leave on 10 August, when his buyout clause expires,” De Laurentiis told Radio Rai.
“I’m confident in him, because I consider him a real man. He won’t make me a joke of me.
“Should Cavani want to leave, he will decide it after a long period of reflection.
“But by 20 July we will probably know everything about his future.”
