Chelsea transfers: Five players who could leave the Blues this summer
Chelsea transfers: The Sport Review takes a looks at five players who could be leaving the Blues this summer
Jose Mourinho has already spoken out and questioned Fernando Torres’ record at Chelsea since completing a record £50m move to the Blues in January 2011. The 29-year-old may have scored 22 goals in 64 appearances last term, but the west London side continue to be linked with Napoli striker Edinson Cavani and Zenit St Petersburg star Hulk in their search for a prolific finisher. With Torres possibly facing a season out of favour at Stamford Bridge, he could be tempted by a return to Spain, with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid reportedly interested.
Despite David Luiz showing signs of developing into a world-class player under former Blues boss Rafael Benítez, there has been reports that Mourinho isn’t an admirer of centre-half’s sometimes erratic defending. The Brazil international won’t be short of suitors should the Portuguese coach decide to sell the defender, who can also play in midfield. Paris Saint-Germain have been heavily linked with Luiz in recent weeks, with the Ligue 1 winners keen to partner the Chelsea star alongside compatriot Thiago Silva, although any deal would cost the French club at least £25m. Fortunately for PSG, money isn’t an object.
Kevin De Bruyne
Kevin De Bruyne has made no secret of his desire to continue playing in the Bundesliga after a season-long loan at Werder Bremen. It was initially though the Belgian would join Bayer Leverkusen as part of Chelsea’s deal to sign Andre Schürrle. However, for now at least, De Bruyne remains a Blues player. At his unveiling last Monday, Mourinho hinted the midfielder may have a future at the club: “[De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku] are the profile of players who Chelsea invested a lot in the past. It is my job to extract the best out of them. I think both of them are ready to come and be part of our squad.”
Chelsea paid £7m to secure the services of Marko Marin from Werder Bremen last summer but the playmaker has struggled to have any sort of impact at Stamford Bridge. Limited to just 16 appearances, and largely from the bench, the midfielder has openly admitted his Blues future is unclear. With Chelsea signing his compatriot Schürrle last week, it’s difficult to see where Marin fits into Mourinho’s plans for Chelsea. It is thought the Blues could offload the 24-year-old this summer.
Everton manager Roberto Martínez has been linked with a swoop for his former Wigan Athletic star Victor Moses after being named as the new Toffees boss earlier this month. The 22-year-old left the Latics for Chelsea last summer but faces an uncertain future at the London club under new Blues boss Mourinho. Moses made just 12 Premier League starts last season, and it is believed Martínez is preparing a £10m offer for the winger.
