Kevin De Bruyne is happy to stay at Chelsea and fight for a first-team place under Jose Mourinho next season, according to the player’s agent.

De Bruyne spent last season on loan to Werder Bremen, where he scored 10 goals in 33 games.

The 21-year-old has been linked with another temporary switch away from Stamford Bridge, with Bayer Leverkusen touted as a possible destination for the Belgium international.

However, agent Patrick de Koster says that his client has been given assurances by Mourinho that he is part of his first-team plans for next term.

“Kevin spoke to Jose Mourinho on the phone while he was in America and he clearly expressed that he wants him to play a part at Chelsea next season,” De Koster told Goal.

“Mourinho told him that he wants to make him a better player and this is very good news.

“The desire of Kevin is just to play football and now he has received the news that Mourinho sees a role for him at Chelsea, he is very happy to stay.”

De Bruyne is yet to make an appearance for Chelsea after completing a reported £7m move from Genk in January 2012.
