Luka Modrić has quashed recent speculation linking him with a summer move to Chelsea by committing his future to Real Madrid.

It had been suggested that former Madrid boss Jose Mourinho was eager to tempt the Croatia international to follow him to Stamford Bridge from the Spanish capital.

However, the former Tottenham Hotspur star insisted he wants to stay at “the best club in the world”.

“I have no doubt (I will stay),” Modrić told Marca.

“I want to remain at the best club in the world and it is a privilege to be here.”

Modrić has endured a difficult season with Madrid and was even voted as the worst signing of the season by the readers of Marca with just three goals in 31 games.

Chelsea were hoping he could be lured back to London as Mourinho looks to stamp his authority on the club by embarking on a lavish spending spree this summer.

But Modrić has, however, made it clear that he is keen to reproduce the form that saw Madrid pay out £30m to Spurs for his signature less than a year ago.

He added: “I think Real have only seen a little bit of my game.

“I can perform better and offer more and in the future I hope to do that and prove to the club and the fans that they were right to bring me here.”
