Chelsea transfers: Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis confirms the Blues are interested in signing Edinson Cavani
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has confirmed Chelsea are interested in signing Uruguay international Edinson Cavani.
The 26-year-old’s future has been a source of relentless speculation over the past 12 months despite the striker penning a new deal with the Naples-based outfit last August.
Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City have all been linked with a bid for the striker, who has £53.5m release clause in his contract, and the South American has also expressed his interest in a switch to Real Madrid.
De Laurentiis is desperate to keep Cavani at the club but vowed to reinvest the money if Napoli’s prized asset is sold.
“The budget for the transfer market will be based in relation to the Financial Fair Play rules,” De Laurentiis told Radio Marte.
“If Cavani is sold then I’ll reinvest all of the €63m (£53.5m) of his release clause.
“There is interest from Chelsea in Cavani, they’ll call me in the next few hours.
“I’ll be delighted if he stays, but if he leaves then he will be adequately replaced.”
Cavani, who has 49 caps for Uruguay, scored 29 goals in 35 Serie A appearances this season.
